WORK IN PROGRESS

This week I have been turning Salad Bowls.

The two shown are made from Yew and are finished with an inert oil.   After use they should be wiped clean with a damp cloth and then dried immediately.    For as I am sure you know, wood and water do not mix, if they become soaked they are likely to twist and crack.   To my knowlege my salad bowls have been in regular use for over eight years and whilst they have become darker with regular oiling they remain decorative and fit for purpose.

Large pieces of Yew are not easy to obtain as the wood tends to have a lot of bark inclusions and shakes but these two pieces are fine.

I will try to get some better pictures of these items when they are finaly finished - three more coats of oil still to go.
